Bikram Shrestha’s identity as a musician and his experience as a composer are closely linked, demonstrating his capacity to infuse feelings into catchy tunes. His lifelong love of music, which started at the age of 14 when he was inspired by his teacher Victor Moktan’s guitar melodies, and his rich cultural history fostered his composer skills. He was born into a home where art flourished.
Composer Bikram has infused Nepali pop, rock, and emotional Western elements into a wide variety of his compositions, adding to Nepal’s musical landscape. His musical career began in 1994 when he joined the Suskera Band, where he began writing songs in addition to performing as a bassist and vocalist. This early encounter prepared the way for his subsequent compositions by enabling him to try out tunes and lyrics that encapsulated the essence of Hetauda, his hometown.
The release of Chinari, Hetauda’s first-ever music CD, was a turning point in his compositional career. The album’s opening track, “Preeti Ka Geet,” was written by Bikram and Surendra Thakuri. He gained attention as a genuine musician in Nepal’s burgeoning music business with his debut studio recording, “Aadhyaro Yo Raat Ko…,” which demonstrated his ability to create soulful songs that connected with audiences. Chinari signaled his rise as a composer with a distinct voice, despite conflicting assessments.
Bikram’s creative skill was further demonstrated during his solo career. Preeti Ka Geet (1996–1997), his second album, with the number-one single “Jeevan Hamro…,” which he wrote and combined pop and folk elements. “Bikram Rajbanshi mixes pop and folk well, offering something for everyone,” Wave magazine said, praising the album’s range. His reputation as a composer who can produce music that appeals to a broad audience while remaining loyal to his roots was cemented by this CD.
Bikram’s ability to adjust to changing musical trends was evident in the compilation albums he wrote for over the years, such as Hetauda Hits compilation and Hedambi. His most recent CD, which consists of ten catchy pieces, demonstrates his development as a composer. He created a variety of experimental, romantic, and passionate songs that are meant to touch hearts and represent a wide range of emotions by working with both up-and-coming and seasoned lyricists and composers.
Inspired by his experiences, based in his history, and motivated by a desire to engage his audience, Bikram’s songs represent his journey. He is still dedicated to writing music that inspires feelings, tells tales, and has a lasting influence on Nepal’s musical scene as he composes.
